About the artworkHere, William Kentridge uses his method of drawing, erasing and redrawing to explore the interplay between image and subtext. The textual elements function as a kind of exploration of the subconscious. The inspiration comes partly from the use of automatic writing in psychoanalysis to access repressed memories, and partly from the séance as a channel to the supernatural. A boxed set of eleven dvds by the following artists: Francis Alÿs, David Claerbout, Douglas Gordon, Gary Hill, Pierre Huyghe, Joan Jonas, Isaac Julien, William Kentridge, Paul McCarthy, Pipilotti Rist and Anri Sala.
