About the artworkParis, the arena of modern art, drew American artist Alexander Calder to Europe in the mid-1920s. His background as an engineer is evident in many of Calder's works - in his linear wire sculptures, his mechanical figures, his miniature circus and three-dimensional sculptures, his mobiles. In the mobile The Forest is the Best Place the sculpture is constantly transformed by the movement of the organic shapes. It behaves like plants, rather than emulating them.
