About the artworkCarl Kylberg celebrated colour as his primary means of expression. In the 1920s, he began painting biblical scenes and also studied Indian philosophy. Many of his works have an obvious religious and existential content. In Love Saga the painting in the middle is bathed in golden light. The exalted subtitles and archaic figures add to the ethereal mood. Kylberg's paintings perplexed the contemporary establishment and encountered resistance. Others, including the young painters who later became known as the Gothenburg colourists, were fascinated and inspired.
