About the artworkLars Millhagen interprets his experience of nature as if he were intending to enact some form of forgotten rite or tradition. He creates spatial situations where man-made shapes are confronted with nature's own materials and irregularities. The traditional concept of sculpture is re-evaluated. Early on, Millhagen exhibited drawings and sketches as independent works. Here we can follow the artistic process through its various stages of developing an idea. Everything appears to be transforming, and the viewer is treated both to the finished works and the unrealised visions. In the sketches from the mid 1970s we see how shapes borrowed from the kids' rabbit hutches are turned into these white frames with architectural qualities.
