About the artworkIngrid Orfali has been comparatively absent from the Swedish art scene, but her impact on art history has been huge. She was born in Egypt, studied in Paris and Lund, has a PhD in both semiotics and French, and has been living on a farm outside Sydney for more than twenty years. In both art and writing, she explores the postmodern condition, including the debate on original and copy. In the second half of the 1980s, she created a series of photographs with motifs on feminist and surrealist themes. These enigmatic images often feature trivial elements, but the scenes are dramatically staged. Their ambiguous titles, mixing Swedish, French and English, add further theoretical meaning to the playful and humorous side of her works.
