About the artworkIn Öyvind Fahlström’s largest installation, information and images are arranged like game board pieces, blending fact, fiction and irrationality into an open-ended narrative. He called his installation an "image organ" and exhibited it in different ways. The title refers to the German-French theologian Albert Schweitzer (1875–1965), who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. Schweitzer, famous for his missionary work in medicine in Africa, but was part of the colonial project and its structure despite his outspoken resistance. In this work, Fahlström was addressing the corrupt, patriarchal order.
