From a distance, Stockholm Slides resembles a giant snake-like sculpture winding down Moderna Museet's façade. Up close, this silver structure invites visitors to experience art and the museum in an unconventional way – letting go of control, surrendering to gravity and sliding from the roof, twisting down and out of the building.
The installation works as both physical interaction and visual experience. For riders, the descent can trigger emotions ranging from exhilaration and euphoria to daring discomfort. Meanwhile, onlookers – restaurant diners and passers-by – become witnesses to this unexpected way to exit the museum.
Höller, who studied agricultural science before becoming an artist, applies scientific curiosity to installations that challenge our perceptions and experience of the world. His large-scale slides have been a signature of his artistic practice since 1998.
