About the artworkNight life wakes up and takes over the entire sheet of paper, which is divided by a wall of nicely-rounded stones. The wall encloses the fictive village of Vitvattnet [Whitewater] that Ragnar Persson has drawn many times. The almost super-realistic details suggest an exuberant and overflowingly rich imagination. Reptiles, butterflies, birds, plants and people meet in one big shared universe on one and the same paper. Persson draws. Anyone can do it. It’s easy and requires no previous knowledge, he says. He starts at one end of the paper and fills it with his own unique fairytale world. It takes time, and requires discipline, but he draws freely and allows himself the pleasure of repeating figures over and over again, until the paper is covered in shiny graphite.
