About the artworkThe colours flow across the paper, wrestling with or following each other, sharing the space and offering resistance. Astrid Sylwan’s four monotypes in the series Fractal Sky is an artistic experiment and collaboration with the printmaker Ole Larsen at Ateljé Larsen in Helsingborg. Together, they have developed a method to transfer the sweeping, grand gestures of painting to the slightly smaller print format. Sylwan paints straight onto a copper plate that Larsen prints on paper. This may sound simple, but not many works pass through the needle’s eye of the artist or printmaker. They have a great mutual trust in each other’s experience and continue to develop their respective skills and knowledge through this collective work process.
