About the artworkIn the Blind Spot project, Cia Kanthi portrays the men who fish from the pier in Malmö harbour. She went there at dusk and made contact, always asking first if she could take pictures, in order to tell the story of these fishing men and their moods. The ones who didn’t want to be photographed she instead documented by recording their voices and conversations. It’s about a subtle form of exclusion, about freedom, and seeing the men, their sisters, mothers, wives and children, who keep them company on the quayside. Cia Kanthi uses a large-format camera and analogue film, which she develops, scans and then prints. The colours span from dark to slightly paler blue in these magnificent, large, softly blurred images.
