About the artwork
This sculpture forms a horizon of birch logs stacked according to the artist’s detailed instructions that the monotonous task should be performed in private while talking about mental health. This work was first performed in 2015, following a surge of suicides in Sápmi. When entrusting the work to Moderna Museet, Carola Grahn outlined how it can be performed here. For the Pink Sails exhibition, the wood was stacked by two museum technicians. In line with a view of the world where nature is animate, the firewood is imagined to harbour these stories, as the forest is said to listen to human confessions. In addition, the long, fragrant stack is a silent testament to physical effort, and a promise of future fires.
