About the artworkA vestibule is a space, an area that leads to other rooms. Vestibulum is an organ in the ear that registers gravity and acceleration. Vestibules are sculptural spaces made of thin metal strips hanging from the ceiling. Tarik Kiswanson has polished the strips using a time-consuming process, to make them shiny. As viewers, we can get lost among a myriad of reflections of ourselves and the surrounding room. Our Self is both multiplied and dissolved, and the experience tends to cause a slight dizziness. If the sculptures are activated, which can happen during Kiswanson’s performances, their rotating movement resembles ritual Sufi Dervish dancing. The dance overrides the ego and leads to transcendence, the spiritual entry into other dimensions. Other rooms.
