About the artworkThe series Oh Mother, What Have You Done? (2020) is based on documentary photos of arrested women collected by Annika Elisabeth von Hausswolff. The works were produced by printing the scanned and dithered B/W photographs on plexiglas with UV ink and then painting with oil on the reverse. Here, the artist revisits the violent subjects she worked intensively on in the early 1990s. The title indicates that they address the role of, and relation to, a mother. The series highlights vulnerable women but also reflects on the question of guilt when a parent fails the child. In the work The Body of Anthropocene (2020), with a portrait of a raggedy, beloved teddy bear, von Hausswolff pursues her exploration, confirming that we have now entered a new geological era.
