About the artworkLygia Clark was a seminal figure on the Rio de Janeiro art scene, and instrumental in the discussions that led to the foundation of neo-concretism in 1959. Clark began exploring beyond the gallery space, moving out of the institutions and into people’s everyday lives. Interaction was central to her practice. Her bichos – "critters" – are changeable, reconfigurable sculptures made of hinged metal sheets. Here, Clark challenges the notion of the work of art as a static object. The viewer is invited to be a co-creator by manipulating and changing them. Bichos have no static form but can be rearranged infinitely.
