Legends of jazz

Info
Ove Alström (1927–1988) was active as a music photographer in the 1960s and 1970s, working for publications such as Orkesterjournalen. His most famous pieces include photographs from the jazz scene.

Ove Alström’s pictures of jazz legends, portraying a world inbetween the revolt of rock music and the prominent Black Power movement, document how jazz penetrated the post-war white middle class society and its longing for material prosperity. In his images, Alström manages to convey the sounds of rebellion. It’s glamorous. But it’s not just about taking pictures. Out of all the negatives, he chose a small handful that tell not only of repression and poverty but pride and a new future. A better future.
