- About the work
s this a minimalist painting, or are those simply electric hotplates, set in a white, enamelled steel surface?
In the mid-1980s, Trockel embarked on her subtle explorations of artistic and social contexts from a female perspective - on a male-dominated art scene.
She dons a new perspective on familiar, everyday things, creating surprising new alternatives to our habitual thought patterns. By inserting them in new contexts, Trockel undermines the usual implications of the hotplate, along with other materials from traditionally female domains, such as textiles.
