The American Friends of the Moderna Museet Inc. Collection
Moderna Museet’s close ties with the American art scene date back to the 1960s. The AFMM helps the Museum acquire American modern and contemporary art. Since the early 1960s, Moderna Museet has introduced American artists such as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Ed Kienholz, Walter de Maria and Paul McCarthy to the European public. A natural result of this transatlantic exchange was the founding of the American Friends of the Moderna Museet Inc. ( AFMM), with the aim of promoting the activities of Moderna Museet. As a public charity, the AFMM enables American patrons and donors to make tax-deductible gifts in the USA, in support of the Museum’s charitable and educational purposes.

- About the work
Wade Guyton’s media include digital paintings on canvas. His main tools are a computer and a large-format inkjet printer, which prints out the programmed colour codes. The machine creates a grid-like finish, where the action of the printhead appear. This forms a significant part of the painting’s overall expression. Traces of the printing process are left on the surface in the form of dripping ink, blurriness and input errors. The white fields are the primed canvas, sections left bare when the ink cartridge ran out. The canvas is folded and processed on both sides, before being smoothed out and mounted on a stretcher.
