About the artworkMany people have said that our perception of nature is a construction and part of our culture. Nevertheless, the countryside lies before us, ready to be explored, inhabited and experienced. Olafur Eliasson makes viewers aware of their own approach to the setting. With apparently simple means he manages to alter our expectations on reality. In 1998 he coloured the water in Stockholm Ström green for a few hours. In 2003 an enormous artificial sun disc - The Weather Project - attracted crowds of people to Tate Modern in London. His works often relate to the experience of time and space. In the photographic series Álftavatn Close-Up the artist slowly approaches an Icelandic stream, stopping every 500 metres to take a picture.
