About the artworkThis video is composed of moving images shot at a week-long performance at the Judson Memorial Church in New York, in connection with the Performa 19 biennial that Éva Mag was invited to in 2021. For this week-long performance work, she instructed ten dancers to make sculptures out of wet clay and textile, and to help each other to get the very heavy objects that took shape to stand on their own. The process was laborious, but it is the demanding elements of strength and endurance that form the very core of what Mag conveys – her art is about the support people need, both physically and mentally. Her conceptual works about the vulnerability and needs of bodies are both installation and sculpture, performance and video.
