About the artworkHurricanes are a recurring annual threat in the state of Louisiana, and the news bulletins frequently report on the devastation and deaths they cause. But the series Hurricane Season is not really about hurricanes, southern Louisiana or poverty. Instead, it portrays a state of mind, a sense that something horrific has taken place and will probably happen again. The photographer Hannah Modigh travelled around the region, to find out why this is the most violent and segregated part of the USA. She realised that the overhanging threat of storms causes fear, but also aggression and passivity. We meet the young people who gather in the streets, the naked men, the women with stern faces, the horses, and the brown water that seeps in everywhere.
