About the artwork

Rosemarie Trockel uses everyday objects that are transformed and take on new meaning. She regards the kitchen as a workplace, her studio. Using utensils from the “home and hearth”, traditionally associated with women, she confronts a male-dominated, minimalist tradition in her often pared-down works. Trockel had her breakthrough in the 1980s, with sculptures in the form of stoves, hobs and knitted paintings.  Trockel’s first knitted pictures were made with a machine, and the patterns were designed on a computer. “After the Hunt” is hand-knitted in green wool, and the artist has turned the reverse side and the stretcher out towards the viewer.
