About the artworkDawid (Björn Dawidsson) is known for his experiments with the photographic medium. In 1969 to 1970, he studied at Fotoskolan in Stockholm; since then, he has developed a practice where the process itself is essential to creating his formalistic photographic images. In the series Rust, published in a book from 1983 by Förlaget DOG, the metal objects suggest various emotions and human forms. The titles consist of the date and negative number, a way of naming his works that he uses in several of his series. In connection with the exhibition Arbetsnamn Skulptur (Working Title Sculpture) at the Thiel Gallery in 1989, the critic and museum director Ulf Linde wrote an essay, “Against Photography”, in which he explains his utter lack of interest in the medium, but makes an exception for Dawid, whose approach negates the difference between photography and painting. Dawid also has a successful career in fashion and advertising photography.
